About Freemasonry – Eureka Masonic Lodge 16
Located in Auburn, California
What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is the world’s oldest and largest fraternal organization. It’s a brotherhood of men from all walks of life who come together to build friendship, character, and community.
Think of us as:
-
A place for personal growth and self-improvement
-
A network of trusted friendships that last a lifetime
-
A force for good works in our community
-
A journey of continuous learning and discovery
Our Core Values
At the heart of everything we do are three simple but powerful principles:
Brotherly Love
We treat every person with respect, kindness, and understanding. In our Lodge, your race, religion, politics, or background don’t matter—what matters is the content of your character.
Relief
We help those in need, both within our brotherhood and in our wider community. From charity fundraisers to hands-on service projects, we’re committed to making Auburn a better place.
Truth
We seek wisdom and understanding through lifelong learning. We believe in being honest in our dealings, faithful in our commitments, and true to our word.
What Freemasonry is NOT
There are many misconceptions about Masonry, so let’s be clear:
❌ We are NOT a religion
-
We welcome men of all faiths
-
We don’t discuss politics or religion in our meetings
-
We require a belief in a Supreme Being, but how you worship is your personal business
❌ We are NOT a secret society
-
Our meeting times and locations are public
-
We’re listed in the phone book and have a website
-
Our community work is very public
❌ We are NOT a networking group
-
While business connections may form naturally, that’s not why we exist
-
We’re about building character, not contacts
-
Your professional status doesn’t determine your worth in our Lodge
What Do Masons Actually Do?

Common Questions
“How much time does it require?”
Most members attend 1-2 meetings per month, plus optional social events. You can participate at whatever level fits your schedule.
“What are the costs?”
We’re transparent about all costs. Dues are reasonable. The value you receive in friendship and personal growth far exceeds the financial commitment.
“Will it interfere with my family life?”
Many of our events are family-friendly, and we understand that family comes first. In fact, many members say Masonry has made them better family men.
“I’m not sure I’m ‘Mason material'”
If you’re a good man who wants to become better, you’re exactly who we’re looking for. We have members from all professions, backgrounds, and age groups.
